Chapter 11
Plucka. Plucka. Plucka. The big blades from the helicopter chopped through the air as we flew over the city of Memphis after midnight. The bright lights of the downtown district illuminated the night sky. From up here the city looked so beautiful. So serene, and like no death could come from it. I knew better. I’d been in Memphis long enough to know that only the stronger survived in this city. Without money, and power the average person in this city was nothing more than a rodent or a scum bag. I had to get my bread right. I was tired of feeling less then a man. I was hoping this plug was the real deal. We’d busted some heinous moves for them already, so I was already thinking that whoever this person was that they were sadistic in every sense of the word.
Mikey held out his fist, with the ear covers over his head that would prevent his ears from popping. They also allowed for us to communicate while the big blades made all that fucking noise.
I dapped his fist and nodded. I couldn’t believe that I was flying in a chopper. I’d always hated heights. I never thought I’d have enough money to afford a helicopter or be so major that I be transported back and forth in one.
“This that shit right here ain’t it bruh?” Mikey asked. His voice sounded like it was coming through a weak frequency. I had to adjust my headphones so I could hear him clearly.
“Hell yeah, nigga. I don’t know who we bout to go and see Mane, but I likes how they getting down already. I could get used to some shit like dis.”
“Me too bruh. That’s what I was thinking.” He dapped me again. “Don’t even trip though. We about to get our chips right, and in a few years we gon be rolling the same way on a regular basis. Feel dat.” Mikey promised. He pulled a blunt out of his shirt pocket and licked the length of it, then sparked it. “Ain’t no way I’m not gon enjoy this experience wit out a lil Loud Pack.
The smoke sailed by to my nose and made me thirsty for a pull too. At the same time, I wondered what was good wit Toya. I still couldn’t believe that she could set me up to be murdered in the way that she had. I understood a person being salty, but I was her daughter’s father. That was the only reason that I’d given her so many chances and didn’t smoke her on so many occasions even though I wanted to like crazy. Something wasn’t right with her. I wish I had known that she loved Bryon the way that she did. I would have never done what I had to him in front of her. No matter what he was gon get what he had coming for putting his hands on Shantê. But I would have waited and handled my business when Toya was no where around.
